Your journey matters and so does who you take it with

I’m Phyllis Kamau, a Licensed Counselling Psychologist registered under the Counsellors and Psychologists Board in Kenya. I specialize in supporting high-functioning adults who experience emotional disconnection, persistent fatigue, and the pressure of maintaining identities that no longer feel fully aligned and who want to understand and shift the patterns beneath that strain. I believe meaningful change happens through structured reflection, psychological insight, and deliberate action. Together, we examine what has been automatic, clarify what is misaligned, and develop responses that are more intentional and sustainable. Every session, whether therapeutic or coaching-oriented, centers on intellectual honesty, emotional depth, accountability, and practical integration. My work brings together the emotional depth of counselling psychology and the forward movement of coaching. Growth here involves identifying entrenched relational and internal patterns, expanding emotional range, strengthening regulation, and building a more coherent internal foundation from which decisions and progress can be made.

Here, growth is neither rushed nor performative; it is thoughtful and grounded. We create a working relationship built on clarity, mutual engagement, and respect for both your capability and your complexity.

Choose Your Path

Counselling and coaching serve distinct purposes. Both are structured, collaborative, and depth-oriented, but they differ in focus, pace, and scope. Choosing the right path depends on what requires attention now.

Individual Counselling

For when the strain is internal. Counselling focuses on emotional disconnection, persistent fatigue, relational patterns, and identity pressure. The work is exploratory and psychologically grounded; examining underlying patterns, expanding emotional range, and restoring internal coherence. This is where we slow down to understand what has been automatic, normalized, defended, or unresolved.

Identity Coaching

For when you are functioning well on the outside but internally uncertain about direction, decisions, or what comes next. Coaching focuses on clarifying priorities, resolving internal conflict, and converting reflection into deliberate action. We identify the patterns shaping your decisions and build structures that support sustained, aligned progress. This is forward-focused work.

Wow, Phyllis was fantastic! She knew exactly what I needed: somebody to keep me accountable over two weeks to finish a proposal. She really understands ADHD, is a proactive communicator, and fantastic body doubler. We'd share screens so she could make sure I was staying accountable, and this really ensured I was on task. She also helped me prioritize tasks and reminded me to take breaks before burning myself out, even if task switching was hard! Towards the end of our second week with her as an accountability coach I became quite ill, and despite my unresponsiveness she still checked in with me daily. Even after our contract was up she was genuinely worried about me and proactively checked up on me! I was traveling alone, and she was so worried something had happened while I was sick. Her genuine care for me has touched me so deeply! I'll for sure work with her again when I become overwhelmed with tasks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between coaching and counseling?

Counseling and coaching both support personal growth but serve different purposes. Counseling focuses on emotional healing, self-understanding, and developing coping skills to manage life’s challenges. It may explore past experiences to help you understand patterns and promote psychological well-being. Coaching, on the other hand, is forward-focused. It helps you identify goals, build strategies, and take actionable steps toward meaningful change. While both can be deeply transformative, coaching does not diagnose, treat, or process mental health concerns.

Before your first session, I’ll send you an intake form and a service agreement that explain what to expect and how I work. You don’t need to prepare anything else. Simply find a quiet, private space and come as you are, with an open mind and a willingness to explore what’s happening for you right now.

Yes. Everything you share with me, whether in counseling or coaching, is treated with care and confidentiality.

For counseling sessions: I follow the ethical and legal standards set by the Counsellors and Psychologists Board in Kenya. This means what you share stays between us, with only a few exceptions required by law or professional ethics (for example: risk of harm to yourself or others, abuse involving a minor or vulnerable person, or a court order). If any of these situations ever came up, we would talk through it together.

For coaching sessions: Everything discussed in our sessions remains confidential, within the ethical standards upheld by professional coaching communities such as the International Coaching Federation (ICF).

In both paths, your story is yours. My role is to hold a safe, grounded, and respectful space where you can speak freely without judgment, pressure, or worry about who might hear it.

I do not accept insurance. However, I can provide a detailed monthly invoice if you’d like to file for out-of-network reimbursement with your insurance provider. It’s best to contact your insurance company directly to confirm whether they cover out-of-network counseling services and what percentage they reimburse. Reimbursement decisions are made at their discretion, so it’s important to check their specific procedures before starting therapy.
